2008 SEASON REVIEWED - GB Racing

< return to race reports

This was not a season that will be looked upon with any kind of "WHOA, WE WERE PART OF THAT!!!!"

It was a season of much rain dodging, hunting & waiting for parts, rain dodging & waiting for the next event. I'm not moaning (really!), just frustrated. All the guys & girls here work hard to make this thing happen, not to mention sacrificing holiday time to watch the rain fall on the roofs of many parked cars & camper vans!!!

ANYWAY.......we did make some good calls on the new combo & had a great weekend at the Truck Show, getting a bit of consistency back, while still treating the new combo to some gentle runs in the 9.8's, a little way of where we wanted to be but with just a handful of runs this was just what we needed!!!

The Summernats.... we missed a bunch of qualifying sessions 'cos for some reason the car didn't want to play!!!! Problem sorted...we ended up in 7th spot, back in the 9.6's, not quite there yet, but getting closer!!! Then the driver had a quick doze on the line in the 1st round & it was time to go home!

Season highlight for me (Marius) was watching Rachel making her first trips down the 1/4mile in Grumpy's Dodge, under the instruction of Mick Howling (regular driver of the Dodge owned by Paul Marston Racing ). Sideways smoky burnouts & a best of 12 flat at almost 120mph was accompanied with the biggest grin you ever saw!!!

The European Finals.......it rained, then it poured, nearly dried out, then it REALLY rained, 4 days worth!!!!!!! Guess where we were after the 3rd day.....that's right, we were watching the rain on the internet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The National Finals saw a dry event!!!!!!!!!!! A strange glow in the sky encouraged both racers and spectators to come out to enjoy the last championship round of the season. We qualified 7th again, eventually putting a 9.59 on a 9.57. We'd previously run a 9.60 so it was looking good for raceday. Weather conditions were identical to the 9.59 run so we dialled a hi .50 and ran straight into the .40's while on the brakes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! " If you're gonna breakout you might as well do it big time!!!!!!!!!"

2008 is over now, it's not how we wanted it to be, so bring on 2009, we'll see what this one brings us.

SEE YA THERE
