Main Event Race Report 2008 - GB RacingMAIN (RAIN) EVENT 08 After a mad 3 week thrash getting the "T" back together, we managed to get to the Pod on the Thursday afternoon of the event. After getting the car scrutineered we set about getting the car to run!!!! Since freshening everything up we had loads of problems keeping the car running & the wheels turning!!
We missed the 1st 2 qualifiers whilst battling an irrate carb!!! Eventually we nailed the problem....a distorted baseplate on our trusted carb.....Loads of gaskets to fill the gap & we were ready to find out if the winter rebuild worked. 10.1 on a 9.50 dial.............. Attention from the fire crew as we left an orange
haze the length of the strip !! Better lean it out a bit as we had been richening it up to
compensate for the carb problem. After missing the early sessions we were confident we would get in the field although we were having trouble dialling in the new heads, cam, converter......then the wind & rain came....losing the rest of qualifying & leaving us in the no. 33 position, the 1st time we failed to qualify for an event since 1986!!!!!!!!! There had been plenty of breakages so we would have gotten in as an alternate but the forecast of more abysmal weather & tiredness convinced us it was time to go home !!
